Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Schemers parties.
Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
